Booker helps with new battery legislation

Booker, the UK’s leading food & drink wholesaler, is helping retailers with the new battery legislation, which applies from 1st February to all retailers who sell more than 32kg a year of portable batteries. Booker, working with recycling company Valpak, will be offering customers a free of charge collection service and battery recycling kit which includes battery collection boxes and window stickers.

The new legislation requires retailers to take back used batteries from the public free of charge, as well as providing shoppers with information about the recycling facility. Booker is able to offer two sizes of boxes to accommodate various space restrictions. The small box is ideal for the counter, with a larger box to store the used batteries in, before telephoning to arrange a free collection.

"Booker is committed to helping our customers operate a successful business," said Steve Fox, Sales Director – Retail. "Offering this service is another reason to drive footfall into stores. A battery recycling store locator, where shoppers can search for their nearest service is also available on www.recycle-more.co.uk, so stores can add themselves to this site to help raise awareness."
