Booker, the UK’s leading food & drink wholesaler, has invested over £500,000 by extending its chilled warehouse at its Hatfield Distribution Centre. The new facility is 4,000 square meters and is double the size of the previous facility. The growth of Booker’s chilled and greengrocery business has also led to the creation of 50 new jobs in the facility. This new chilled chamber will ensure Booker delivers the freshest possible products for its customers.
As part of Booker’s commitment to act on climate change, having been the first food wholesaler to be awarded the Carbon Trust Standard, the new chiller has been fitted with low energy lighting, which reduces the power consumption by 60%, this offsets additional carbon and energy used by the larger chamber.
Chairman of Booker Group plc, Richard Rose and Charles Wilson, Chief Executive are joined by the Non-Executive board and senior management team to open the new chilled chamber at Hatfield Distribution Centre with official ribbon cutting.
“Booker is delighted with the new chilled chamber and the extra capacity will help us provide a better service to customers,” said Charles Wilson, Chief Executive. “Chilled sales are growing at over 20% in Booker so it was essential that we improved the facilities at Hatfield to ensure we continue to increase our choice of products. With the creation of 50 new jobs and the offset of the power consumption, this is a great achievement.”
